What Is EPDM Roofing?
EPDM is an extremely durable synthetic rubber roofing membrane (ethylene propylene diene terpolymer) widely used on low-slope buildings in the United States and worldwide. Its two primary ingredients, ethylene and propylene, are derived from oil and natural gas. This single-ply roofing product has many advantages – for example, it’s longevity, its proven track record, and the cost compared to other types of roofing. It is usually black which can help decrease heating bills for northern climates, but it is also available in white which allows them to reflect UV rays and reduce cooling costs. EPDM is fire-resistant and actually slows down the progress of fires. EPDM membranes are also long lasting and can be expected to last around 20 years or longer.
