If you are in the market for a new roof, you may have heard of TPO roofing. But what is it? TPO roofs are becoming increasingly popular due to their durability and affordability.

What is TPO Roofing?

TPO (thermoplastic polyolefin) is a white single-ply membrane that is used in both commercial and residential roofing (it is seen more on commercial roofs). Because TPO is a white membrane, it reflects heat rather than absorbing it.

What Type of Roof is Best for TPO?

TPO is a fantastic choice if you have a flat roof or a low-sloped dormer that faces a bedroom. It's also great for keeping spaces below cooler, such as an assembly area or garage.

Water won't drain away as fast on a low slope or flat roof as it would on a higher pitch, so it must be waterproof. Asphalt shingles are therefore unsuitable since they aren't intended to contain sitting water.

Something to keep in mind if you can see the roof from a window, you must consider the TPO white membrane's appearance. If the window looks over the membrane, it will get dirtier considerably quicker. It's not a major issue if you

don't care about the look or can't see the roof at all. It's just something to bear in mind during the selection process.

How Many Years Does a TPO Roof Last?

One of the main benefits of TPO roofing is its longevity. With proper installation and maintenance, a TPO roof can last up to 20 years.
