scupper roof drain installation

2025-02-28

A roof scupper is a type of drainage system that allows water to flow off a flat or low-sloped roof. Scuppers are typically located near the edges of the roof, and designed to direct water away from the building. Roof scuppers prevent water from pooling on the roof and causing costly damage to your roof membrane

A simple way to look at it is that roof scuppers drain water externally, through gutters and downspouts the outside of the building, whereas roof drains drain water internally, through pipes inside the building.

A scupper directs water away from a building's exterior, while a drain carries water into a building's interior.

It consists of an opening in the parapet wall or roof itself, allowing water to drain off the roof and away from the building. Scuppers channel the water from the roof surface to the outside, where it can be safely drained with the help of downspouts

Description: Scuppers are used to provide an outlet through parapet walls or gravel stops on flat and built-up roofs to allow drainage of excess water. They can be used in conjunction with gutters and downspouts to divert the flow to the desired location.
